What styles of photography do you offer?
Friendly and enthusiastic. I generally try to capture traditional, formal, timeless photos with photo-journalistic photos included, but, I am happy to do more of one or the other if that is your preference.
Formal: These traditional, posed photographs are completely arranged by the photographer, selecting the setting, lighting, positioning and expression of the subject, and are often captured in colour.

Photojournalistic: This candid Paparazzo style generally shows true reactions and real emotions that cannot be captured in formal portraits alone. They often result from the photographer anticipating and recording a happening, without the subjects' knowledge, or, they may be artistically and creatively refined, or, uniquely posed by the photographer. These may be captured in colour, black and white, or both.

I like the photo-journalistic style, but will you also do our posed group formal photos?
Absolutely! I understand that posed formal photos are likely to be a very important part of capturing your day. We are happy to include both formal and photo-journalistic styles in your day's photos.

Can you hold our date for us while we decide about our photography needs?
Due to the limited number of prime wedding dates each year, We cannot hold your date for you without a deposit and signed contract. My bookings are operated on a first-signed, first-served basis for both wedding dates and engagement sessions, with a deposit and signed contract securing your date.

Who will be the photographer at our wedding?
I will be the photographer for your wedding. You will have direct contact with me from your first inquiry all the way through your wedding day and beyond. We have one photographer who specifically uses only a photo-journalistic style and if you prefer you may request him. His name is Alan. Both photographers are present with our top packages.

How soon will we get our proofs?
We use state of the art Mitsubishi Click system digital processing for viewing.  We are able to print photos for guests on the same day as the wedding ceremony.
The images will be displayed on the website allocated to you within seven working days of the wedding or session. Please allow up to two weeks from ordering for wedding or engagement session images to be printed. This is just an estimate; it may be shorter or longer depending on the circumstances and season.

Is there a limit on the amount of pictures you take? How many pictures will you take?
There is no limit on the amount of photographs taken during your selected coverage. I will take as many photographs as necessary to tell the story of your day.

How much time do you spend photographing our wedding day?
Coverage is available in packages of varying hours, depending on your needs and wishes for photography coverage of your day. Our fully inclusive packages are not time limited and have a guaranteed number of prints and an unlimited number of photographs depending on the package.

Should we do pictures before or after the wedding?
It is your wedding day, so of course this is really up to you. We try to capture your guests when they arrive at the wedding venue. The ceremony is included and then after the wedding we will take the group photos and then private photos of the wedding group. Finally we take any families or friends who require a photograph. Through experience we have found that we need to be allocated enough time between the ceremony and the evening celebrations to avoid a 'rushed' feeling which results in fewer photos, rushed wedding party members, hurried family members, and anxious guests. Less time allocated for photographs also takes away from the amount of time and the calm atmosphere I need to give you the creative photos that are a part of my style.

Do you retouch our photos?
Minimal facial retouching, if necessary, is included in the editing of your images. This may include touch-up of blemishes, stray hairs, or other small skin markings. This can include more major work on request prior to the wedding. Any additional retouching is available only by request and at an additional per-image lab fee.

Do you bring backdrops?
I prefer to capture the atmosphere of your day creatively and on-location by including scenes from the setting of your special day as a part of your photographs, but we carry a backdrop and lights in case of inclement weather when indoor shooting is necessary. Often all that is needed is an umbrella until the weather clears and our Highland venues are photogenic and we can often use the stairs etc inside the venue to create the scene.  Also the lenses we use can create what we call boketh, or a blurred background behind the sharp focus of the subject.  It allows us to take a photograph in a crowded place and separate the background from the subject.

Will we need to provide a photo checklist for our wedding?
I have a good idea of what should generally be photographed - my focus is ultimately to capture images from your wedding day as it unfolds! But - I'm open to your suggestions! I ask my brides to supply a list of must have shots to include special friends or family in the posed shots.

Will you give us suggestions on what to wear for our portrait, engagement or pre-wedding photo session?
Yes, I will provide suggestions for portrait, engagement or pre-wedding photo sessions and offer advice about posing if you wish.

When should we take our engagement or pre-wedding photos?
This is, of course, really up to you, depending on how soon you need your engagement photos and what you plan to do with them. Please note, however, that our sessions are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis, and availability is limited. Because we try shoot our engagement sessions outdoors, we recommend taking your engagement photos on a dry day for the most favorable and pleasant backdrops and temperatures, but we do shoot year-round on location and indoors.

Can family and friends take photos?
Of course! At most of the weddings we attend there are many amateur photographers and we are pleased to advise them. We are being paid and need the space to complete our job. This could mean asking for no flash at some time or for a short wait while we carry out a particular shot. We are able to take photographs in low light without using flash.  Some churches and registrars refuse flash and some refuse photographs, except for a professional official designated photographer during the ceremony. Often we will stage the signing or part of the ceremony to get a good photograph. Guests taking photographs should be given the opportunity to take personal photos. We like to take a few special shots of the wedding party privately.  We offer an on the day dvd printing service where we suppy a DVD form your guests cameras. We can also print your guests photographs on the day.

How do you dress for weddings?
I wear something that is appropriate yet comfortable to work in depending on the event. I do not wear a kilt but usually a dark lounge suit, and any assistant is also suitably dressed. For portraits I usually dress in a casual manner.

Any other questions?
We would love to hear from you if you have any questions not answered or if you require any additional information. No obligation is inferred. We love our job and will always try to give you the best advice.
